Hampstead is the first traditional neighborhood development to be built under Montgomery’s adopted SmartCode. Developed by the Colonial Company, one of the lartest home builders in the region, Hampstead represents a new growth model for Montgomery’s fastest-growing area.

Using the site’s natural features, the design includes three neighborhoods that differ in character while creating an interconnected community based on the discipline of the five-minute walk. A mixture of housing types gives shape to greens, plazas, and playgrounds designed to promote an active civic environment. The town center, just off of Taylor Road, is set to be the busiest gathering place in Hamstead. It features restaurants, shops, offices, a YMCA, the sales Gallery, the Racquet Club and many apartment and live-work units.

North of the town center, Hampstead Farms will provide residents and local restaurants with fresh produce, as well as a farmer’s market. Adjacent to the urban farm, small and large lots form a neighborhood focused on agricultural use. The other neighborhoods will feature a mix of apartments, townhouses and single-family homes.

A man-made lake, called Boating Lake, centrally anchors the development and along its eastern border, a park is designed to preserve existing woodland. In addition, the Lido Pool overlooking the lake and a school complete the connection of main street to the community as a whole.
