The DPZ Team and our Professional Network
A Protean Organization DPZ is a protean organization consisting of offices in the United States and affiliates working in Europe, Asia, and Latin America. Our offices are supported by a wide range of professionals in architecture, planning, engineering, transportation, and health care. As a protean organization, teams are tailored to the needs of each individual project on a cross-professional and cross-locational basis.
What we do:
How we work:
The Charrette, DPZ Style: The term charrette has changed in its application to architecture, design and planning. We began charretting in the 1980's. When we say charrette at DPZ, we mean efficiency and value. Our preferred method of working brings stakeholders and decision makers together and gets results: multi-disciplinary teams, virtual offices and 24-hour turn-around. We put in the time up front so we don't waste time and money later.

The Lexicon of the New Urbanism is a work in progress that DPZ first developed in the early 1990s. The Lexicon offers a comprehensive list of New Urbanist terminology, including still-useful terms that have been lost to current practice and terms whose meanings have been dissipated through misuse.
The language of the Lexicon is intended to be adaptable for codes and standards, both of which require precision and brevity at the expense of justification or explanation. Yet, despite the commitment to code language, there is an attempt to avoid the legalisms that are an impediment to common understanding.
The Lexicon is not a finished artifact as much as a repository of raw material available for an indefinite number of specialized publications. The Lexicon may be downloaded in PDF from the link above. As we continue to evolve this work, we will post updates here.
