In his published interview, it is disturbing to witness an illustrious architect like James Fried squirm for having designed the Ronald Reagan Building in a classicist style. The architect of the Holocaust Memorial should know that good buildings need not apologize for their style any more than decent persons should bury their beliefs.

That he feels compelled to do so confirms the totalitarian ethos of the current architectural scene.
